The CDC revised guidelines for expanded HIV testing recommend an opt-out screening model, a generalized medical care consent which includes HIV testing, and do not require prevention counseling for patients, or post-test counseling for negative patients.
Please refer to ACT 59.
In recognition of a potential impediment of extensive counseling sessions to patient flow in clinical settings, we have developed expedited protocols for the testing process. These include the use of written pre and post-test counseling literature, audiovisual counseling materials, and a condensed written consent (Resources). All materials comply with Act 59 requirements and have been approved by the appropriate legal departments.
